G-Land Beach, World Class Surfing Spot

G-Land Beach, local call it "Plengkung Beach", is a beach located in Alas Purwo National Park East Java Indonesia.  It is sutiated on Grajagan Bay, in southeastern coast of Java heading to Indian Ocean which is exposed to large swells that is generated by low wind pressure systems on the Ocean.

It is famous for the big waves and becomes "Heaven" for surfers to break them. The waves could reach 4-8 meters with over 1 kilometer long and even colud form 7 compound waves.

G-Land Beach is popular for those who like surfing commonly from abroad. Many surfers come to the beach to break big waves, and also tourists come there only to view green forest. The waves in this beach have 3 levels, Kong waves (2-12 ft more), Moneytrees Waves (2-10 ft) and speeids Waves (2-8 ft). Biggest waves usually come on May to October (at dry season).

 There are surf camps and resort availabe at the beach, so that, travellers can stay overnight at camps thare. In surfing, surfers can hire a boat, people there call it "Jongkong Boat", It can carry 4 persons. Surfers usually come at 09.00 a.m to the beach to break big waves till afternoon and continue to watch sunset at the beach.

Beside the big waves, other interesting activities in G-land are soft trekking the green forest of Alas Purwo by bycle you could hire there or walking by foot, and diving, snorkling, caving and fishing at the beach. 

Some said that letter "G" in G-Land comes from word "Green" which refers to Green forest and others said from word "Grajagan bay" or refer to "Great Waves" or from the shape of the bay that forms letter "G".

Route to G-Land Beach Banyuwangi East Java

If you have plan to visit G-Land, You can travel from Surabaya or Malang towards Banyuangi city, and then drive to Kalipahit and continue to Pancur post, It is about 60 Km from Banyuangi city. Or you can travel from Jember city towards G-Land with duration of about 3 hours and distance of 120 Km to Pancur Post. From Pancur post, you can walk along 9 Km or you could rent a car that has been provided by ranger officer. The raod-track to G-Land is not smooth like common road because It is located in National Park Preservation which is not allowed to change Its natural contours. 

Another way to G-Land is seafaring, you can travel using boat from Bali island directly to G-Land with duration about 3 hours, or from Grajagan beach using boat to G-Land (40 Km) with duration of 1 hour.

Since National Geographic mentions that Blue Fire comes from burning sulfur gas that contacts with air at temperatures above 360 ​​degrees Celsius, the number of local and foreign climbers is increasing every year.The temperature around Blue Fire itself can reach 600 ° C. It is located on mount Ijen, East Java Indonesia. They load it with a bamboo basket and took it to the waiting collector.

It is located in the middle of the largest caldera on Java island. The size of the caldera is about 20 kilometers. The size of the crater itself is about 960 meters x 600 meters with a depth of 200 meters. This crater is located at a depth of more than 300 meters below the caldera wall.

To reach Ijen crater, first you have to come to Paltuding post area, one hour driving from Banyuwangi, and then continue by trekking. Sukamade Turtle Beach Banyuwangi East Java | Sukamade Beach, known as Turtle Beach, is located in Sarongan Village, Banyuangi East Java. This beach is in the area of Meru Betiri National Park. Beside Mount Ijen, Sukamade beach is also a famous tourism in Banyuangi. Many species of turtles are found in this beach such as green turtle and the others that lay their eggs here. It might become the biggest turtle habitat in Indonesia. In this area of 1.200 hectares grow some plantations such as rubber, chocolate and coffee palntations.

In this beach, visitors can see directly turtles laying their eggs, turltle preservation and activity of releasing hatchling into the sea. Usually turtles come to lay thier eggs in the evening. It can reaches 80 turtles coming to the beach from evening until morning. So if you want to see them laying eggs, you have to come to the beah at 20.00 p.m.

Sukamade beach is almost 90 kilometers from Banyuwangi downtown,and it takes approximately 3 hours journey from the town. The track is quite challanging in almost 30 Km to the beach. There are some beaches around Sukamade beach such as Rajegwesi beach and Teluk Hijau Beach, but visitors mostly come to Sukamade beach to see the turtles.

To go to Sukamade Beach, you can drive approximately 6-7 hours from Surabaya/Malang towards Banyuangi, then continue to the beach using 4 WD transportation about 3 hours from Banyuangi, or you can use travel agent. The ways to get Sukamade Banyuwangi

Sukamade Beach Banyuwangi, can be reached from Banyuwangi city to the northwest or from Jember to the north-east. Day 1 : Banyuwangi Ketapang harbour – Kalibaru – Meru Betiri National Park

• Pick you up by AC (air conditioned) van at Banyuwangi Ketapang harbour or Kalibaru (train station, Bali Airport, Hotel) then take you to Meru Betiri National Park with jeep through plantations and tropical rainforest. On the way stop at long beach, then stop at the gate of Meru Betiri National Park, continue by jeep to Rajekwesi fishermen village (500 – 750 m). Having Lunch and rests on Rajekwesi food stall (included picnic lunch box).
• Continue the trip to sukamade guest house ( the most difficult one, four wheel drive vehicle mostly recommended), and stop at Teluk Damai (literally translated means “PEACE BAY”). Upon arrival in Sarongan village, you will be crossing the biggest plantation of coffee, cocoa, rubber (the crops are can be seen on the way to sukamade) in Java and continue visit the Sukamade plantation village (Afdeling).
• Arrive at Sukamade guesthouse, take a shower, rest until dinner time. It’s time to recharge your camera and handycam battery, starting 8 pm there is no electricity in the guesthouse. At 6.30 pm dinner on Sukamade Guest house (included).
• After dinner, proceed to Sukamade beach to withness the green turtle lying down his hundreds eggs (sightings are not guaranteed). Possibility to visit the Turtle hatchery or Park Ranger Office (possible to see the turtle hatchlings all the time of year). Sitting on the beach wait for the signals from park ranger who search for the turtle (Not allowed to smoke, turn on the flashlight, loud talking or making any loud noises. If we are lucky to find the turtle and watch the wonderful processing of laying eggs, we go back to guest house and overnight in Sukamade guesthouse.

Day 2 : Sukamade – Kalibaru/Banyuwangi/Ketapang harbour

• After breakfast, depart for Sukamade beach to bring baby turtle from turtle hatchery to the beach, then releasing baby turtle to Indian ocean (subject to seasson and ranger’s schedule). Afterward drive back to Banyuwangi district. Transfer to Kalibaru village, Banyuwangi, Ketapang harbour.
