Mount Bromo Volcano East Java Indonesia
Mount Bromo is an active volcano located in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, East Java, Indonesia. The name of Bromo derived from Javanese pronunciation of Brahma, the Hindu creator god. At 2,329 meters (7,641 ft) it is not the highest peak of the massif, but is the most well known. There are mountains around Mount Bromo such as Mount Batok, Mount Widodaren, Mount Penanjakan and Mount Widodaren.
This massif area is one of the most visited tourist attractions in East Java, Indonesia. Mount Bromo lays in the middle of a plains called "Sea of Sand". Tourists come to Mount Bromo mostly to see sunrise and its beautifull view. To see Sunrise, you should go in early morning around 03.00 a.m. There are many spots you can go to see Sunrise but the Highest spot is Penanjakan 1. From this spot you also can see Mount Semeru, the highest volcano in Java Island.
Every year It has ritual ceremony called Kasodo, the Hindu festival of Yadnya Kasada, the Tenggerese people of Probolinggo, East Java, travel up the mountain in order to make offerings of fruit, rice, vegetables, flowers and sacrifices of livestock to the mountain gods by throwing them into the caldera of the volcano. The origin of the ritual lies in the 15th century legend where a princess named Roro Anteng started the principality of Tengger with her husband, Joko Seger.
If you have plan to visit Mount Bromo, it is adviced to go on June-August, brightest months to visit Bromo. From Bromo parking lot, you can rent a horse or Jeep transportation to get to Mount Bromo, or you can walk. There are many hotels, motels and lodgments.
